The Philippine Embassy in Athens Commemorates the 124th Anniversary of the Martyrdom

of Dr. Jose Rizal

29 December 2020 - The Philippine Embassy in Athens held a ceremony today to celebrate Rizal Day and commemorate the 124th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Philippine National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal on 30 December 2020.

Chargé d’ Affaires, a.i. Rosario P. Lemque led the officers and staff of the Philippine Embassy in Athens in paying tribute to the Philippine’s national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal with a wreath-laying ceremony in front of the bust of Dr. Jose Rizal at Embassy’s lobby ground.

The wreath laying was followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and the reading of Dr. Jose Rizal’s famous poem, “Mi Ultimo Adios” in its original Spanish language, by Mr. Berth D. Salvador, the Embassy’s Administrative Officer.

The highlight of the commemoration was the screening of a short documentary film about the life and works of Dr. Jose Rizal.

A simple salo-salo followed after the film showing which was shared by the Embassy officers and staff to culminate the Rizal Day celebration.
