Philippine Ambassador to Greece and Cyprus Giovanni E. Palec was able to meet Mrs. Annita Demetriou, President of the Cyprus House of Representatives (CHR) at the 33rd Annual General Assembly of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber where she was one of the speakers. CHR President Demetriou is not only the youngest Representative to be elected as President but more significantly, the first female to achieve such a feat.
Ambassador Palec attended the 33rd Annual General Meeting of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber (CSC) held on 03 May 2022 at the Four Seasons Hotel, Limassol, Cyprus. He was accompanied by Philippine Honorary Consul in Larnaca, Mrs. Charmagne Garcia-Laconico.
Aside from CHR President Demetriou, the other speakers were Mr. Vassilios Demetriades, Shipping Deputy Minister of the Republic of Cyprus who spoke on behalf of the President Nicos Anastasiades and Mr. Themis Papadopoulos, President of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber.
Deputy Minister Vassilios Demetriades conveyed the Cypriot Government’s appreciation to all the Cyprus Shipping Chamber Members for their significant contribution and strong support to the economy of Cyprus. CHR President Annita Demetriou, expressed the CHR’s commitment to work with the CSC to further develop the industry. On the other hand, CSC President Themis Papadopoulos highlighted the contribution of the Cypriot Shipping industry to the economy and the disruption of the pandemic to shipping operations in Cyprus and the world. He stressed that the Cyprus Shipping Industry remained resilient despite the challenges and continued to offer what they consider vital-to-humanity services.
During his conversation with CHR President Demetriou, Ambassador Palec said that he looked forward to discussing with her matters of mutual concern and closer cooperation in the future.
