The Philippine Embassy in Athens, in celebration of National Heritage Month, hosted the ASEAN Noodle Festival held at the Philippine Ambassador’s residence on 13 May 2022 with the members of the ASEAN Committee in Athens (ACAT) where each Embassy featured a noodle dish from their country. The Philippines, through Madame Novelyn Palec, wife of Ambassador Giovanni Palec, showcased the popular noodle dish "pansit habhab" of Lucban, Quezon, during the cooking demonstration portion of the event.
The other ACAT spouses and ladies also shared how their noodle dishes were prepared. The Thai Embassy presented “Thai Green Curry with Rice Noodles”; Viet Nam demonstrated the “Pho” with fresh rice noodles; while Indonesia featured the “Soto Mie Bogor.”
Aside from the “pansit habhab”, other popular Filipino foods and sweets were also served at the event, such as the pandesal, chicken barbecue, lumpiang togue, ube macapuno cakes, and the halo-halo, while the other Embassies also brought their other dishes such as the klepon (glutinous rice balls) and iced cendol dawet (made from pandan jellies, coconut milk, and palm sugar syrup) from Indonesia, thong yot (golden drops), foi thong (golden threads) and Thai cake (mungbean and rice cake) from Thailand, and nem (spring rolls) and banh cuon (rice rolls) from Viet Nam. These were all enjoyed by the guests who were composed of the Embassies’ personnel and some of their families.
Ambassador Palec gave the other ASEAN ambassadors and chargé d’affaires a “Pahiyas Festival” kit at the end of the event which contains the pansit habhab noodles.
