The Philippine Embassy in Athens participated in the Greek Travel Show 2018, which was held at HELEXPO Marousi, Athens, Greece, from 04 to 06 May 2018.

The event was organized, for the second time in Athens, to highlight tourism destinations in Greece in an effort to boost domestic tourism.  It was organized by TIF HELEXPO, the same group which organizes PHILOXENIA, Greece’s annual international tourism exhibition in Thessaloniki, Greece.  One hundred (110) exhibitors, mostly from the administrative regions and municipalities of Greece, participated in the event.

The opening ceremony was held on 04 May 2018 and was attended by Mr. George Tziallas, Secretary General of Tourism Policy and Development, Ministry of Tourism of Greece.

In addition to the Philippine Embassy, the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Kenya and the National Tourism Organization of Serbia, were the foreign missions which participated in the event.

The Philippine Embassy booth featured posters of: 1) Fort Santiago in Intramuros, Manila; 2) Calle Crisologo in Vigan, Ilocos, Sur; 3) the Underground River in Puerto Princesa, Palawan; 4) Mayon Volcano in Albay; 5) the Manjuyod White Sand Bar in Manjuyod, Negros Oriental; 6) the Marlboro View Point in Mahatao, Batanes; 7) Siargao in Surigao del Norte; 8) Mt. Pinatubo Crater in Botolan, Zambales; 9) the Lanzones Festival in Camiguin Island; and, 10) the Kasadyaan Festival in Tacloban, Leyte.

Visitors to the Philippine Embassy booth were given brochures on Cebu, Bohol, Calabarzon, Cordillera, Davao, Iloilo, Manila, Palawan, Puerto Galera and It’s More Fun in the Philippines.  The Philippine Embassy has noted that Palawan is very popular among the Greek Travel Show 2018 visitors because of “Nomads,” a Greek reality show which took place in Palawan for 12 weeks and which aired on Greek ANT 1 television from October to December 2017.
